Lost for words…..

Retweet

…..well nearly.

If you have read this blog for a while you may well know what happened to our house back in January. If not check out this post (Crazy few weeks).

Fast forward four months and we are still not back in the house due to an unbelievable series of cock-ups but numerous parties but the main one being the buildings insurance (landlords) sat on their hands doing nothing, then when they did start doing something their office got closed down and our case was left!, finally we got it all picked up again and stuff started moving…

…until today. We received a call from the managing agents to tell us that he wasn’t going to carry on with the house and was serving us notice because he wants to sell the house and wash his hands of it. BUT WHY?!? the place is insured, we are fantastic tenants, have never missed a payment and have been very understanding and patient with the heel dragging by the insurance and the managing agent.

This leaves us in quite a predicament, we cannot buy the house as we simply cant afford a mortgage. We cant put a deposit down on a new rental property until we get the deposit back from this house. We are going to speak with citizens advice and the managing agent this afternoon to see if we can get the deposit back from the TDS (Tenancy Deposit Scheme) immediately so that we can find somewhere else.

Hopefully we will find out of we have any legal leverage on this to claim for compensation due to the amount of stress we have been put through over the past few months.

The worst thing is, we absolutely adore this place and dont want to move, our plan was to clear our debts then buy the property, but it doesn’t look like that will  happen now.

  • What about offering a rent to buy contract? Don't know if you can do them in the UK, but here we offer them. Something like a 3 year rental contract, with purchase price pre agreed, and your payments come off the selling price at the end - effectively saving towards your deposit?

@mikecj Dont think they do them over here, and by the sounds of it he needs/wants money now. Just so gutted that after all that waiting for the house to be fixed we now arent going back there.

We've found a place for rent thats just come up that looks quite nice and a little bit cheaper than we are currently paying.

@lewis C.A.B couldnt really help much apart from to suggest asking him to reconsider, which i have done but because our initial 6 month contract is coming to an end at the end of may we dont really have a leg to stand on, we basically just have the standard 2 months notice as of last thursday. :(
  • That genuinely sucks...

Definitely speak to Citizens Advice and just ask what you can do. Hope you get some stuff sorted soon mate
