Whats wrong with the UK

I’m sure I’m not alone on this one but it cannot be denied that in this country most people are pessimistic about everything, kids are going mad (read playing with knives for the hell of it) and people these days rarely have a friendly conversation or even say hello to people they don’t know. I’ve just moved into a small village on the outskirts of Uckfield where there is a very friendly atmosphere, when I walk to the village shop people say hello or have a chat in the shop, its quite a stark contrast compared to living in a bigger built up town, but why is it? Its not like people in the towns are horrible or bad people but its become the norm to keep yourself to yourself and interact only with your existing friends and family.

So I was watching casualty on Saturday night, and one of the main characters Curtis, who has been through so many problems and lost his brother etc etc etc, finally comes to the end of a storyline where he can get on with his life and get married… and then the writers in their infinite wisdom decide to kill the character off!!!

..and its not just casualty, you look at any tv soap or drama and sometimes films, and they always have stupid story lines of one bad thing happening after the other, which just depresses people if you ask me. I would be the first to admit that the typical (and this isn’t meant to be an insult) American happy or feel good that adorns pretty much every film or TV program can get a bit irritating but at least its there. I rarely see much on the TV that makes me feel good.

So whilst this is not the only cause of some of the problems we have in this country i think it has a far more of an effect than we think on people, especially on young and impressionable minds learning about the world. If the media and news weren’t negative enough about every last detail we don’t need the TV companies bringing everything down even more!

Rant over!, I realise my writing style is crap so apologies in advance, but wanted to get these thoughts out. I would be interested in your opinions on the subject
